This week, the 6th Norton Scouts and Cubs enjoyed an unforgettable evening thanks to a special visit from Cleveland Police and it’s safe to say, the excitement levels were sky-high!
The evening’s centrepiece was the incredible Medi-Car, the only one of its kind in the entire country. Fully equipped with advanced medical and police equipment, this specialist vehicle gave our young people a rare opportunity to explore how emergency services respond to critical incidents.
Hands-On with Police Kit
From the moment the officers arrived, our Cubs and Scouts were captivated. They got a hands-on look at the tools of the trade, including handcuffs, asp batons, leg restraints, and even Parva spray (a type of pepper spray used in law enforcement). The enthusiasm from both young people and leaders was clear, it was like an action film come to life!
But the real star? The “big red door knocker” a battering ram used to force entry, which quickly became a crowd favourite. Plenty of laughter followed as the Scouts imagined putting it to use (safely, of course!).
Inside the Medi-Car
Our guests then opened up the Medi-Car, giving everyone a close-up look at the state-of-the-art medical and police equipment inside. From trauma response tools to public safety gear, the vehicle showcased how first responders prepare for every possible scenario.
We also got to see a “stinger” device, the type used to stop fleeing vehicles, and, to top it off, a live demonstration of a police drone in action! The kids were full of questions and curiosity, and the officers were incredibly generous with their time and answers.
Extra Special Guests
What made the visit even more meaningful was learning that our guests, Tom and Rob, are Special Constables, fully trained volunteer police officers who serve on top of their regular day jobs. Their dedication is inspiring, and we’re so grateful they chose to spend their free time with us.
To thank them for their visit and to mark the occasion, we made Tom and Rob honorary members of the 6th Norton Scouts, complete with a necker presentation. Here’s hoping we’ll welcome them back again soon!
A Massive Thank You
From all the Cubs, Scouts, and leaders at 6th Norton, thank you, Tom and Rob! You made a real impact, and the buzz from the night will stay with us for a long time.
